Bladder Surgery

Patients with incontinence problems who have had unsuccessful results with non-invasive exercises and treatments may consider the benefits of bladder surgery. There are several types of surgery offered through Partners in Pelvic Health North Shore Urogynecology, and these can assist with bladder leakage. Dr. Gandhi offers sling placement, vaginal mesh, InterStim neuromodulation, and vaginal tightening, all of which are surgical procedures that can assist with incontinence in women of all ages.

Sling / Vaginal Mesh

Pelvic floor prolapse patients may benefit from the placement of a vaginal mesh or a sling. These help hold up the organs to reduce incontinence concerns. Dr. Gandhi can place, revise, and remove these as necessary. He has found that many patients experience better bladder functionality with these in place.

InterStim Neuromodulation

InterStim neuromodulation requires surgery to implant into the vagina. This neuromodulator is a small device that sends electrical stimulation to the nerves to tighten and reduce problems associated with an overactive bladder. This is done as a permanent solution, and is similar to the way a pacemaker is used to stimulate the function of the heart. Patients interested in InterStim neuromodulation can have a temporary surgery done for placement to utilize short-term. This allows a patient to determine the improvements that it provides before having the permanent surgery performed.

Vaginal Tightening / Vaginoplasty

When women have a loose vagina, they may experience both medical and sexual problems. A tighter vagina will improve sexual function, allowing both woman and man to experience better sexual satisfaction. Tighter vaginal muscles can also reduce functional conditions such as urinary incontinence. Patients with pelvic organ prolapse can also benefit from a vaginoplasty. Women considering this surgical procedure are encouraged to visit for a thorough examination and consultation with Dr. Gandhi to determine their candidacy and the need for this procedure.
