Bladder control problems can be helped with specific Kegel methods used in the Park City area

If you experience urine leakage when you cough, laugh, sneeze, or attempt to engage in a physical activity, you are in the company of millions of other women. It is easy to think that bladder control problems are rare because many women simply do not discuss this type of concern. Dr. Sanjay Gandhi is a specialist who meets with women from Park City, Glenview, Northbrook, and other Chicago suburbs regarding sensitive health concerns.

Bladder control problems can be helped

Bladder control problems such as urinary incontinence or the frequent need to urinate may stem from one of several potential causes. One of the common factors of urinary incontinence is muscle weakness. Throughout the pelvic floor, various muscles aid in the flow and stoppage of urine as well as sexual pleasure. These muscles may become weak because of vaginal childbirth, pregnancy, stress, or age. Depending on the degree of weakening, the loss of urine at inopportune times can be significant.

One of the most recognized ways to improve muscle tone in the pelvic floor is to perform Kegel exercises. Developed decades ago, Kegels have been performed by millions of women. In many cases, a vast improvement has been accomplished through regular exercise. It is possible, however, that a woman will perform Kegels without achieving the desired outcome.

How is this so? In order to tighten muscles for a specific outcome, exercise must be performed in a precise manner. For instance, when you want to tighten your abdominal muscles, it is necessary to pull the belly button inward during crunches or sit-ups. Pushing the belly button outward during exercise will actually cause the muscles to protrude as they tighten. Kegels work in much the same way.
