Labiaplasty

A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that is done to alter the inner and outer labias of the genitals. The labia minora and labia majora are folds of skin that vary in shape, color, and size on every individual. However, with changes to the body, the appearance of the vagina can change. Abnormalities and congenital defects can make a woman feel very self-conscious about the appearance of her vagina and can result in the consideration of plastic surgery. Elongated labia skin folds may keep a woman from feeling confident in a bathing suit or during sexual interactions, and irritation can occur during sex when the labia minora and labia majora are longer than normal. Weight gain, genetics, aging, and childbirth can all affect the appearance and functionality of the genitals.

A labiaplasty is performed with anesthesia, either under local or general sedation, and can be included in a vaginal rejuvenation procedure with Dr. Gandhi. This outpatient procedure allows a woman to return home from the practice the same day. Aftercare instructions are furnished to the patient, and a follow-up appointment is made to ensure that there are no signs of infection or concerns that may have developed since the procedure. As with any surgical procedure, there are risks of infections and complications, though this is discussed thoroughly by the doctor before the surgery is scheduled and performed.
