While the vaginal mesh was FDA approved over ten years ago for pelvic organ prolapse, there have been many reports of mesh complications. Patients have reported concerns such as infection, pain and discomfort, and erosion of the mesh, which has resulted in the need for vaginal mesh removal. It was found that approximately 10% of patients who have had vaginal meshes placed experience some problem or concern that requires removal.
Dr. Gandhi understands that slings and the vaginal mesh may not be the best solution for everyone, and complications can occur that require surgical treatment to repair, revise, or remove slings and vaginal meshes. He makes sure that he discusses the advantages and disadvantages of surgeries with patients before they are performed. However, the unexpected can occur and the treatment may fail, requiring removal and reconsideration of treatments. Having a doctor who a patient trusts is important in receiving helpful information before major decisions are made in regards to one's health.
